The United Way Southwestern Indiana and the Vanderburgh County Health Department are working together to get people connected to the resources they need. They’ve combined forces to form one database for people who need social services. United Way 211 is available by phone 24-hours and on the internet. The initiative is the first of it’s kind in Indiana. It will cut down on duplicated services and expenses. Also, it will make accessing critical services easier. The United Way of Southwestern Indiana has recently added Robin Whitledge, Kathryn Nix and Katie Merrick to its team.   Whitledge joined the United Way of Southwestern Indiana as the 2-1-1 services manager. She most recently served as the outreach coordinator with Catholic charities at the Diocese of Evansville. Whitledge holds a master's of science degree in public service administration from the University of Evansville and bachelor of arts degrees in criminal justice and English from Indiana University. Nix joined the United Way of Southwestern Indiana as the marketing and communications director. She formerly served as the marketing director for the Evansville Courier & Press. nix has a bachelor of science degree in business administration/marketing from Murray State University. Indiana United Ways has elected Jonathan Weinzapfel, chancellor for Ivy Tech Community College Southwest/Wabash Valley, to its board of directors. According to a news release, his contributions to United Way began as a loaned executive supporting fundraising campaigns early in his career, and he has served on numerous United Way member agency boards. He currently serves on the board of the United Way of Southwestern Indiana, but first came in contact with the non-profit through his mother, Sylvia, who was executive director of the Evansville YWCA, a United Way member agency. United Way Announces New IMPACT Grant for Local Nonprofits

United Way of Southwestern Indiana officials officials on Tuesday said a new grant is available to nonprofits in Vanderburgh, Warrick and Spencer counties. The United Way board voted to make up to $200,000 available for local programs that aimed at putting people on the road to self-sufficiency. Agencies that apply for funding don't necessarily have to be current United Way partners. The board will award funding to as many as 15 applicants. Programs that are chosen for grants should be innovative and foster collaboration, with the specific goal of giving individuals and families a hand up, said Matt Theby, a United Way board member.
