United Way of Southwestern Indiana will conduct the 24th Annual Day of Caring on Friday, September 8, 2017. The day will start off with a breakfast at the Old National Events Plaza. Breakfast begins at 7 a.m., followed by a brief presentation at 7:30 a.m. After the presentation, volunteers will go out into the community and spend the day helping 60 local nonprofit agencies complete much needed projects, which include landscaping, painting, helping the elderly, reading to preschool students, carpentry work, and much more.
The Day of Caring breakfast also serves as the kick-off for the 2017 United Way Campaign, which runs through December 8. Campaign Chair, Kevin Koch,will announce campaign results from 2017 Pacesetter companies: Berry Global, Brake Supply, City of Evansville, George Koch Sons, German American Bank, Harding & Shymanski, Koch Air, Koch Enterprises, Inc., Skanska, South Western Communications, Traylor Bros., Inc., Uniseal, Vectren, United Way of Southwestern Indiana and Partner Agencies.
Additional speakers at the Day of Caring breakfast will be United Way of Southwestern Indiana President and CEO, Amy Canterbury; Self-Sufficiency Committee Chair, Matt Theby, who will announce recipients of the 2017 Impact Grant; Chasity Everett, Community Outreach Director of After School Programs at the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana; and musical performances by Gina Moore, Emily Parker and Stephanie Terry.
United Way’s first Day of Caring took place in 1994 with 150 volunteers. This year, more than 1,000 individuals from local businesses will spend the day volunteering.
