United Way to host Day of Caring

The 24th annual “Day of Caring” is set for Friday.  It’s the largest one-day volunteer event in the area.

“We’ll put over 1,100 volunteers out into the community into 60 different non-profit organizations,” said Amy Canterbury, President of the United Way. The volunteers will perform a wide range of projects…everything from landscaping and carpentry work to reading to preschool students.

“So many of our agencies look forward to this every year as a way to spruce up or clean up,” Canterbury added.  “And we have volunteers willing to do that.  We have just a fantastic giving community.”

The Day of Caring is also the kickoff to the United Way Campaign, which runs through December 8.  Organizers have set a goal of $4.2 million for 2017.

“We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community,” Canterbury said.

The United Way assists organizations in Vanderburgh, Warrick and Spencer counties.
