Volunteer Spotlight: Len Winiger

This National Volunteer Week, we are taking a moment to highlight a few of the caring and talented volunteers who give selflessly to create a stronger community. Their drive and dedication serves as an inspiration to those they impact, as well as those who can follow their example. We asked what drives them to volunteer for United Way, and the importance of sharing their talent.

“I enjoy having the ability to help others. The individuals that visit our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program are very appreciative and the volunteers are fun to work with. One year I filed taxes for a happy high school student. She worked at a restaurant after school, and her mother had applied for disability but not received it yet. This young lady was basically the head of the household, which also included three younger sisters. She was very inspirational.

I have been very lucky, and my life has been good. I think that it’s important to share my blessings with those who have not been as fortunate or are just getting their life together.”

MORNING FLIGHT GOLFERS: We are still on for this morning. The ECC and UWSWI staff will monitor the weather for lightning and will make a call as soon as possible. We may have a delay.
