Volunteer Spotlight: Kedzie Hopkins

This National Volunteer Week, we are taking a moment to highlight a few of the caring and talented volunteers who give selflessly to create a stronger community. Their drive and dedication serves as an inspiration to those they impact, as well as those who can follow their example. We asked what drives them to volunteer for United Way, and the importance of sharing their talent.

“I love volunteering with United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program because I get the chance to connect with so many people. In my volunteer role, I interact with each person who visits our VITA site. When clients are busy filling out their paperwork, I enjoy talking and joking around with the other volunteers. We have a lot of fun! My favorite memory from volunteering at VITA so far has been dancing with longtime volunteer, Annie, and having VITA clients join our dance party!

United Way is a great organization in our community. As a volunteer, I am able to be my outgoing self and in doing so, I am able to be a positive presence during the tax filing process, which many find to be very stressful. Every smile I see, laugh I hear, and thank you I receive reminds me how important it is to continue volunteering. This was my second year volunteering at VITA and I hope to continue for many years to come!”

MORNING FLIGHT GOLFERS: We are still on for this morning. The ECC and UWSWI staff will monitor the weather for lightning and will make a call as soon as possible. We may have a delay.
