COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund FAQs

The Fund was established as a collaborative effort between the Southern Indiana Grantmakers (SING), United Way of Southwestern Indiana (serving as the fiscal sponsor), Welborn Baptist Foundation, Community Foundation Alliance, the City of Evansville, and founding donors. The intent was to serve the relief, recovery, and restoration phases of the COVID-19 crisis for a duration of 18 months.

A fiscal sponsorship is an arrangement in which a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (the “fiscal sponsor”) offers its legal and tax-exempt status to another group for a project or an activity related to its mission. The fiscal sponsor accepts financial donations on behalf of the sponsored group and then grants those donations to the sponsored group. When you make contributions to the fund, your credit card statement and tax receipt will reflect a donation to the United Way of Southwestern Indiana. However, none of the donations are retained by United Way SWI and the contributions are used solely for the purposes of the Response Fund.
