VITA Program

The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program connects moderate to low-income families and individuals with a certified tax consultant volunteer to help them claim their Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and have their return prepared and e-filed for free. Through the VITA program, we help people in our community take advantage of their tax dollars and reinvest their returns back into Southwestern Indiana.  This year, 935 tax returns were filed through our VITA program, generating $1,286,770 in state and federal refunds.  Many clients used their tax refunds to pay bills, add to their savings accounts, purchase homes, and make home or car repairs.  The VITA program depends heavily on a group of local volunteer tax preparers who donate their time during tax season.  This year, 37 volunteers assisted clients at four locations from January 30 – April 18.
