United Way of Southwestern Indiana (UWSWI) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Evansville, Indiana. Our service area includes Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Spencer Counties.
We purposefully and strategically engage with our community to address the root causes of poverty. This is accomplished by awarding competitive grants to local non-profits, operating programs that enhance traditional and financial literacy, advocating for policies that ensure equity, and serving as a fiscal sponsor for small groups and organizations.
OUR MISSION
United resource to understand and address priority community issues.
OUR VISION
Communities where all individuals and families have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1922, the United Way of Southwestern Indiana first began as a local Community Chest organization. It funded 17 agencies in southwestern Indiana. In 1937, the United Way began to do more than raise and allocate funds and began focusing on addressing needs in the community. The forerunner to First Call for Help, now the 2-1-1 information and help line, was established in 1938. In 1958, the organization became a United Fund.
OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & BELONGING
The United Way of Southwestern Indiana values Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and we also consider the importance of Belonging for marginalized people as we intend to LIVE UNITED.
We believe that every person has value and brings substantial value to our community. Their lived experiences, race, ethnicity, citizenship, nationality, socio-economic status, gender identity, gender roles, sexual orientation, age, religion, and/or diverse abilities enrich our collective community.
While acknowledging that historical barriers still exist, we intend to foster this commitment through collaboration, discussions, and ongoing training that encourages the United Way of Southwestern Indiana and its partners to be leaders in building avenues to genuinely honor the diversity that we each bring.

Anti-Racism Statement
United Way of Southwestern Indiana unequivocally denounces racism and ethnic discrimination.
We recognize racism, ethnic discrimination, and oppression have contributed to persistent disparities which United Way seeks to dismantle.
We understand these disparities existed in the past, persist into the present, and will continue if not addressed.
We acknowledge these inequities are the result of attitudes, policies, and practices that marginalize entire populations of people.
We strive to engage and empower community members, especially those whose voices have been or are marginalized, along with those who
serve as allies and advocates.
We work within our communities to co-create solutions that ensure everyone has the resources, support systems, opportunities, and
networks needed to thrive.
We commit to leveraging our assets, voices, talents, and influence to create more equitable communities.
