Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program offers free tax preparation and e-filing services to individuals and families with an annual household income at or below $57,000; persons with disabilities; and those who are older than 60 years of age. VITA tax preparers are certified by the IRS to ensure that clients receive all eligible Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) and Child Tax Credits. In addition, clients save money by not having to pay fees associated with tax preparation. Through the VITA program, we help hard-working individuals and families in our community take advantage of their tax dollars and reinvest their returns back into Southwestern Indiana.

Even with reduced capacity in 2021, 758 tax returns were filed through our VITA program, generating more than $963,000 in state and federal refunds. Many clients used their tax refunds to pay bills, add to their savings accounts, purchase homes, and make home or car repairs.  The VITA program depends heavily on a group of local volunteers who donate their time during tax season.

WE NEED YOU! Become a VITA Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of our VITA program. Without them, we can’t assist as many families in getting the tax refunds they deserve. Volunteers are needed to serve Warrick County. No prior tax experience is required and we’ll provide the training. Please join us!
